Welcoming Congregation

In October 2003, the congregation of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Indiana (FUUCI ) voted unanimously to begin the process of becoming a Welcoming Congregation.  The Welcoming Congregation Program is a completely volunteer program for congregations that see a need to become more inclusive towards bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender people.

As part of that process, FUUCI conducted a series of activities including congregational meetings, workshops, services, and discussions, all of which are intended to explore the various dimensions of the complex topic of sexuality and how it relates to our individual search for truth and meaning and our congregational commitment to social justice.

We are now proud to have been officially designated by the UUA as a Welcoming Congregation.  On Sunday, April 30, 2006, the Reverend Keith Kron, Director of the UUA Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Concerns presented our congregation with the official recognition of our status as a Welcoming Congregation.
